Good post. Needs some engineering improvements
"I've owned 3 One Up Droppers now and I am mostly satisfied. That said, there are issues with these droppers (V1, V2 and V3). I am a power rider and I ride an average of 3 mountain bike rides per week going back 10 or more years, so I really put my equipment to the test. Here are my issues: - The midcap comes loose on its own and eventually spins off after many actuation's. I am always trying to tighten it so it doesn't come loose but I have needed up stripping the threads on 2 of these now because no amount of tightening keeps it from spinning loose. I needed up wrapping it with electric tape to keep it from spinning. I haven't tried locktite yet, but that would be another possible solution. - When servicing any of the droppers, there are 2 tiny hex bolts that hold the actuator on. I have now stripped 3 sets of these bolts because dirt gets lodged in around them and they become seized in the actuator. I have tried putting anti-seize on these and ever-so-lightly screwed them in with no torque and yet, they still get seized. At one point, bolt extractors wouldn't remove the bolts and I ended up cutting the actuator off and having to replace it. I was disappointed when I contacted One Up for new screws and they mentioned they do not supply them individually, nor would they tell me what size they are so I can source them on my own. - After extended use, the seat post gets some play in it so that my seat moves slightly left or right between my legs when I am riding. Having spoken to my local bike shop, they explained this is a know issue because the brass pins start to wear on the post making the glide paths wider, creating play in the seat. Ok but I do like some things about these posts: - The easiest serviceable post I have ever owned. I like to service my parts at home, and I can service these posts in less than 20 mins. - I like cable actuated posts vs hydraulic for serviceability as well. - They work in all conditions. I live in the PNW and endure dry summer dust or wet sloppy fall/winter conditions. I actuate the post a heck of a lot and they always work. - They are super easy to install and adjust."
